Condensate Neutralizer Refill Basics
So you have taken the time and made the expense to install a carbonate neutralizer into your high-efficiency heating appliance setup. Great job! Doing this will surely assist with keeping your wastewater at a PH level that will not cause damage to your pipes, sewage, or septic system, right? Indeed. However, knowing how, when, and with what to refill your condensate neutralizer is very important to continue on your clean non-acidic wastewater journey.
Ideally, it is best to check the PH of your wastewater after it goes through your condensate neutralizer every 3 months. Of course, we recognize that not everyone will do this so we suggest checking it a minimum of every year. If the PH has dropped below 5 then it is time to change out your condensate neutralizer media.
Condensate Neutralizer Installation, DIY Or Hire Someone?
Great. You have purchased your Fireside Condensate Neutralizer and you can hear your pipes singing your praises. Now it is time to install it. Obviously, it is of the utmost importance to install your condensate neutralizer correctly. If you don’t, you could end up with an ineffective unit or even water damage from leaks.
If you want to be one hundred percent certain that your condensate neutralizer is installed correctly, then we suggest hiring someone with experience. HVAC experienced technicians and plumbers are your best bet to get it done right. However, if you are on a budget then you always have the option to install it yourself. This can easily be done by closely following the manual that came with your unit. If you do not have the manual that came with your Fireside unit, feel free to give us a call and we will walk you through the process.
How Long Do Neutralizers Last?
Condensate neutralizers can last many years without needing to be serviced apart from replacing the media. We are so confident in our Fireside condensate neutralizers that we offer a 10-year warranty on our units, which is the best in the industry.
The length of time that media will remain effective depends on the amount of acidity that is found in your heater’s wastewater, the amount of water that comes into contact with the media, and the type of media you are using. With those three variables in mind, it is difficult for us to tell you how long your condensate neutralizer media will last. The only way to be sure is to test the PH every few months.
Neutralizer Marble Chips Or PH Power Pellets?
When considering what media to refill your neutralizer with, it is important to note that both limestone and marble chips work just fine when they are in a near-pure form. PH power pellets also work great in conjunction with the chips. The most important aspect is to ensure that there is enough media with enough fill space and it is formed in a way that the wastewater is forced to pass through all of the media.
Better To Buy Or Make Your Own Condensate Neutralizer?
While there are ways to create a DIY condensate neutralizer, there is always a risk that the design will fail or the construction is not done correctly. This puts those expensive pipes and drainage systems in jeopardy!
Don’t risk harming your home. We suggest purchasing a pre-made condensate neutralizer and having an experienced technician install it to ensure that your drainage systems are protected!

I installed a tankless waterheater 6 years ago, which supplies all hotwater, and heating in my home. Its been trouble free. Recently i am getting a code on the heater that says I need to service the neutralizer. I talked to the plumber who did the plumbing in the house, and he indicated not to worry about dumping the condensate into the sanitary drain, the plastic is not an issue. So, if I ignore the warning 92, or 93, will the water heater continue to function normally?
Thanks.
It looks like a relatively simple task to replace the material in the cartridge. I am a maintenance manager, so I am competent with most plumbing issues, I installed the tankless myself, it was easy.
Thanks again.
How much do they cost?
